Persistent redness and a medical diagnosis are not the same appointment

Written by Shayse Tulloch, RNLast clinically reviewed: November 1, 2026

People book this conversation because their cheeks stay flushed when the room is cool, because small vessels have become visible beside the nose, or because a physician has already used the word rosacea and they want to know what a laser can add. Those are three different starting points.

Laser may help improve the appearance of background redness and of vessels you can already see. It is not offered here as care for the diagnosis itself. Eye symptoms, a rash that is new or painful, and any concern that has never been looked at medically belong with a physician. Book a consultation at Nurse Injector Shayse about the cosmetic portion only.

What the assessment is actually looking at

Diffuse redness that comes and goes with heat, alcohol, exercise, or wind is a flushing pattern. A fixed pink field across the cheeks is different. Thread-like vessels that stay put when you press near them are different again. Brown marks left after spots heal are pigment, not rosacea, and they are discussed on the pigmentation page.

The device is the Aerolase Neo Elite, 1064nm Nd:YAG. That wavelength is used across a wide range of skin tones because it interacts less with epidermal melanin than broad-spectrum light. A deeper skin tone is not a reason to skip the assessment. It is a reason the first pass stays conservative, and a reason to be sure the colour is vascular rather than melanin before any energy is delivered.

Broken capillaries and spider veins are neighbouring concerns, not the same map. A single obvious vessel on the nose is a different plan from a field of redness across both cheeks. Both can be talked through at the same visit. The wider laser menu, including how vascular marks are usually quoted, is on laser treatment in Edmonton.

How the Neo Elite is used on redness

Energy leaves the handpiece in a 650-microsecond pulse. The short duration is what lets the appointment skip numbing cream for most people. For redness, the intended absorber is haemoglobin in small, superficial vessels. Heat in those vessels is the mechanism. The surface itself stays intact, which is what non-ablative means in this room.

A full-face pass for general redness and a focused pass on a visible vessel are not the same settings. They are chosen at the assessment after the skin has been seen, not from a screenshot. Naming, clearance, and how 1064nm differs from IPL are on the Aerolase Edmonton page, kept separate so this page can stay on the redness question.

Microneedling does not target haemoglobin. If the request is only redness, needles are usually the wrong tool to open with. If texture sits beside the redness, the two modalities may be sequenced. That is a factual split in mechanism, decided at consultation.

What a course may change, and what it will not

Visible vessels and background redness can look different earlier in a series than fine lines do, because those lines wait on collagen remodelling. How many visits that takes is not printed as a rosacea row on the menu. It is set when the pattern is seen, and it is revisited if the skin is not responding as hoped. Results vary by individual.

Triggers do not disappear because a vessel was treated. A hot yoga class, a windy river-valley walk, or a bowl of something spicy can still flush the face. Laser may help improve the appearance of the redness that lingers. It is not a reason to stop the medical plan a physician has already given you, and it is not a reason to skip sunscreen.

Downtime is usually pinkness rather than peeling. Tell the clinic if you have a filmed event or a photograph the same week. Same-day social plans are often fine. The flush may still show in that photograph. Results vary by individual.

    Pricing for a redness visit

    $450

per treatment, face and neck included

If a series makes sense after the assessment, three treatments are $1,200 and six are $2,100. Both figures are flat fees before GST.

An additional area the menu already prices, such as the chest or the hands, is $50. Facial redness itself sits inside the face-and-neck visit.

There is no separate rosacea fee and no fixed visit count on the card. Results vary by individual.

See a physician before you book laser if

    • Your eyes are involved: gritty, red, or light-sensitive eyes need a medical assessment, not a cosmetic handpiece
    • The redness is new, one-sided, painful, or paired with a fever or a rapidly changing rash
    • You have pustules or thickening of the nose that nobody has diagnosed
    • You are pregnant, finished acne medication (taken by mouth) in the last 6 months, or using a medicine that makes skin light-sensitive
    • The skin is infected, open, or sunburned on the day you hoped to be treated

A cosmetic plan is paused when the story sounds medical. That pause is the point of a clinical assessment rather than booking a device online. Book a consultation at Nurse Injector Shayse, and keep your physician in the loop if you already have a rosacea diagnosis.

    Who does the assessment

Shayse Tulloch, RN. Redness consults at Nurse Injector Shayse are held at 8813 63 Ave NW inside Vivere Skin & Body. Clients also come from Sherwood Park and St. Albert.

She will say when the look of redness might be approached with laser, when it should stay with your doctor, and when another option in the clinic, such as a skincare pause or microneedling for texture only, is the clearer path. Device background lives on the Aerolase hub.

    Redness questions

How much does rosacea laser treatment cost in Edmonton?

Aerolase Neo Elite treatment at this clinic is $450 a visit, and that visit includes the face and neck. A series of three is $1,200. A series of six is $2,100. Prices are before GST. Redness does not have its own line on the menu, so the length of a course is quoted after the assessment shows how much of the colour is background redness and how much is discrete vessels. Results vary by individual.

How many laser visits does facial redness take?

There is no fixed rosacea package on this menu. Background redness and visible vessels are assessed in person, and the number of visits follows that finding. Redness can shift earlier in a course than collagen change does. A course is reviewed as it goes rather than sold as a block you must finish. Results vary by individual.

Can darker skin be treated for redness?

Sometimes. 1064nm Nd:YAG is a wavelength often chosen when the skin carries more melanin, because less of the beam is absorbed in the epidermis. Redness on a deeper skin tone still needs a conservative first pass. Suitability is decided at the assessment, including whether the colour is vascular or pigment. Results vary by individual.

    Does a redness treatment hurt?

The 650-microsecond pulse is the reason numbing cream is usually skipped. Expect a brief warm snap, stronger where the skin is thin, such as beside the nose. Settings aimed at vessels feel different from a low pass aimed at general redness. You can stop a pass. Sensation is personal.

Is there downtime after laser for redness?

People are generally back to their day. Flushing can look stronger for a short time, and the skin may be pink. This is not ablative resurfacing, so there is no raw surface to nurse. Makeup, exercise, heat, and spicy meals are worth planning around for a day or two if heat is one of your triggers. Results vary by individual.

    Will laser clear rosacea?

No. Laser may help improve the appearance of persistent redness and the small vessels you can see. It does not replace a physician's care, it does not stop every flush, and it is not a plan for ocular symptoms or for a rash that has not been diagnosed. Book a consultation at Nurse Injector Shayse, and talk with your physician, about which part of the picture is cosmetic. Results vary by individual.

Start with an assessment, not a series

You should leave knowing whether the colour is something laser may help the look of, whether a physician should see it first, and what a visit costs. Results vary by individual.
